Throughout May, the Galveston Art League (GAL) gallery
will display more than 100 works that were accepted into
its Spring 2023 Juried Show. Art League members as well as
nonmember artists from the Galveston-Houston area were
allowed to enter up to three pieces in the competition.
Cash prizes were awarded to Best of Show and first- and
second-place artworks in six different categories: works on
paper, works on canvas or board, 3-D wall-hung, 3-D free-
standing, photography, and digital art. Most of the pieces are
for sale, both in the gallery and online on the GAL website.
Galveston Art League hosts three juried competitions each
year; the winter show is in February and the fall show is in
September. A prospectus is posted on the website a few
weeks in advance of entry date.
The league, established in June 1914, is an all-volunteer
nonprofit organization that promotes visual arts and art
education throughout the greater Galveston County region.
Its 12 monthly exhibits promoting works by local artists
represent a major part of that mission.
Galveston Art League is located at 2117-A Postoffice. The
gallery is open Friday-Sunday from 12-6pm. For more details
